I would like to say, after 16, but times goes faster and it is today normal to have one. So 12 I had to get my first phone by myself. I think I was 20 years old at that time.

The moment I let them go outside on their own and that depends on how responsible I think they are.

I got my first phone at 9 but i think 12-13 years old is a good time to get your first phone

I got my first phone at 10 because my parents got divorced and having my own phone was part of the agreement. I think 13-15 is a general good age though.

i didnt get mine until uni you'll survive without it. I can still survive without it even now. Like messaging me isn't the best way to reach me for urgent stuff cuz I'm not always with my phone lol maybe around the time they'll switch schools (enroll in a diff school to move up). Like here it would happen in middle school

To be honest, start with a cheap phone. It will help them practice responsibility and keeping track of their phone

I think the earlier you can start making friends online, the better (as long as you’re taught basic internet safety stuff first)

what the fuck

it's a me

when kids start using public commute by themselves a basic phone with call and text function would do although, i didn't have one when i started commuting by myself and I was fine lol it would be convenient tho nowadays to have one i think smartphones and access to the internet should be given after kids have been taught basic internet etiquette, what can happen when u go to sus sites (virus and shit) and how to deal with info they will find on-line. not that this should be a one-time session or 'when u reach 10 i will test u this'. I think like other things, it's something you can build gradually over time starting from when they are very young. Like how do you respond to their questions? Do you make them feel like they can ask you anything in the future? If they find something online in the future, would they know they can bring it up to you without you being hysterical about it? Stuff like that is basically relationship building, which is better started early.

I think there are several factors that play in to this: how mature are you? Do you live in a safe area? How responsible are you? How often are you away from your parents? If you’re really mature and responsible or live in a dangerous area I’d say a flip phone at 13, if not flip phone when you start driving or are frequently separated from your parents (unless they wanna track you then I think it had to be a smartphone), if you’re mature and responsible I’d say 15 or 16 is a good age to upgrade from a flip phone.
